Passing the Baton at Asian Outreach

On June 1st, 2007, a historical development took place in Asian Outreach as the Presidency was transitioned from Rev. Dr. David Wang to Dr. Francis Tsui.

ImageFor more than 40 years, David Wang has been serving in Asian Outreach, and for 25 of those most happy, and rewarding years, as the International President. David has shared with many, "My deepest desire is that Asian Outreach would be more than a one-generation ministry. Therefore I have always wanted to see a responsible and intentional transition of its presidency. For the last seven years, working closely with my International Board and teams, we have been moving towards a spiritual, strategic and sustainable baton passing."

David is quick to assure everyone that he is not resigning or retiring from Asian Outreach. Rather this is a repositioning. David will be focusing more on the ever-growing Asian Outreach China ministries. Without question, the church of Jesus Christ in China is experiencing many fruitful and unbelievable opportunities. Besides his China commitment, David will continue to serve Asian Outreach as President Emeritus, as a minister-at-large and in a mentoring role.

Francis Tsui considers it a great honor and tremendously humbling experience to accept the calling to be the new President of Asian Outreach. He has been involved closely with Asian Outreach for the last seven years as a supporter, Vice President and Board member. Over the years, Francis has traveled with David to many of the Asian Outreach mission frontlines. David has been his mentor and friend during this time, and will continue to be so.

Francis has a deep sense of call and destiny with this ministry role. He shares: "Over the past decade in my marketplace career, I was always involved with investment decisions — like providing seed money to incubate start-ups; investing in existing businesses; or buying stocks of listed companies. Invariably, the decision comes down to the people involved — the entrepreneur behind the start-up; and those executives leading and managing the companies. I always say that investment is not about investing in concepts, or ideas, or projects, or companies. It is about investing in the people — people who have passion, commitment and wherewithal to succeed. This is even more important in ministry. Without a doubt, people are the heart and spirit of all that counts. Investing in people, and especially in leaders, is of paramount importance.

"To stay on the cutting edge as we move into the fifth decade of ministry in Asia, Asian Outreach will go deeper and broader as we continue to catch up with the wind of revival across the Continent. This will be an exciting and rewarding journey. I look forward to a continuing fruitful and strategic ministry as we partner with others to focus on Winning Asians for Christ, Asians Winning for Christ."
